The place itself is a no-frills rectangle filled with the necessary equipment arranged in a logical and efficient manner to accommodate a dozen or so lifters at a time, depending on what they're doing. You're not going to find showers, water coolers, vending machines, heated towels, cucumber-flavored water, mud-mask specials, or any of the accoutrements of a chi-chi downtown health club. You come here to focus on getting strong, essentially all using free-weights and a few other accessories to help warm up, stretch, etc. The lifters range in age from pre-teen kids to near-retired, each having their own goals, be it getting strong, maintaining strength, learning the basics of the olympic-style lifting disciplines, or preparing for olympic-style weightlifting competition. The crew is super-knowledgeable and very welcoming / supportive; everyone there is very considerate and positive. I'd done sports all my life in one form or another and have disliked weightlifting itself and the typical gyms and their vibe. Not this place. I now lift here on a regular basis, with excellent coaching and guidance by Joelle, and over a 3-month period feel big improvements in functional strength and energy levels.

This is the best gym in Ann Arbor. Fantastic coaches and a great community. This is a very welcoming place for all skill levels and ages. They host events and meets throughout the year so there are lots of opportunities to learn and compete. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a weightlifting gym or any general strength and conditioning to try Lily Weightlifting!
